'It is God who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle': Boxer on course for world title fight speaks of faith

by Chantalle Edmunds

Britain's light-heavyweight contender Joshua Buatsi has given glory to God following his 15th straight win in the ring last night.

The unbeaten 28-year-old knocked out Ricards Bolotniks from Latvia, in a controlled performance at Matchroom's Fight Camp in Brentwood, Essex, with a huge right hand as he stayed on course for a world title fight.

Following the bout, Buatsi congratulated Bolotniks on a strong performance in his post-fight interview and thanked "God for the victory."
"I have to thank God for the victory. Different fighters have different things that work for them and that's what works for me.

"I don't need to hear what happened in camp, I need to hear 'Josh it was written in the bible, I didn't say it it's written here'.

"When my soul touches the ring, I say this is mine. I'm grateful, man, big credit to Bolotniks he's a good champion."

In the build up to Saturday night's event, he posted on Twitter: "The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord."

Buatsi won a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics, In 2017, after turning professional, he invited YouTube channel IFL TV to film inside his changing room during the second fight of his career.

Footage showed Buatsi in a circle singing how grateful he was for what God had done for him.

Buatsi is managed by world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
