Indian pastor shot dead outside church

Pastor Sultan Masih from the Temple of God Church in Ludhiana was said to be on his phone when two men on motorbikes approached him.

He was hit by three bullets and was pronounced dead on arrival at Dayanand Medical College & Hospital.

While the attack was caught on CCTV, the picture quality wasn't sufficient enough to reveal the identities of the killers.

A police investigation is underway.

Christians in the area are reportedly linking the attack to an increase in persecution of believers in India in recent years. Hundreds (pictured above) took to the streets to protest yesterday.

Responding to the attack, Wilson Chowdhry, Chairman of the British Asian Christian Association, said: "This unprovoked attack on a Christian Pastor before many members of his congregation is an attack on religious freedom. It resonates with the hatred Christians face on a daily basis in a nation that is becoming increasingly polarized under Modi's government.

"Pastor Sultan Masih's name is added to a growing list of Christian martyrs across the globe and I will be praying for succour for his family and friends."
