The National Churches Trust (NCT) has announced that Huw Edwards will no longer be vice president of the charity.
The former BBC news reader this week appeared in court relating to charges of making indecent images of children.
On Wednesday, the 62-year-old admitted three counts of making indecent images of children and will be sentenced in September.
Edwards had been active in promoting the NCT, calling for the preservation of buildings and in particular the organs which many churches and chapels contain.
He had named Capel Als in an NCT survey of favourite churches and chapels. He called it “one of the most significant religious buildings in Wales”.
Edwards had also narrated a BBC film about the loss of pipe organs.
In a statement released after Edwards was charged on 29th July, NCT said: “In light of the news, the National Churches Trust has confirmed that Huw Edwards is no longer a Vice President for the charity. We are shocked and saddened by the recent developments."
It added that The National Churches Trust has 28 Vice Presidents who advance the cause of the charity in a number of ways. They are all unpaid voluntary positions.
