A church has become the target of hunt saboteurs, prompting the cancellation of a carol service.

The service at St George’s Church in Clun, within the Diocese of Hereford, was due to be held for the local hunt, the United Pack.

After anti-hunt activists posted details of the service online, along with the email address of the vicar leading the occasion, it was advised St George’s cancel the service.

Police are not conducting an investigation into the barrage of complaints, the senders of which are not limited to the confines of the UK. The church has received emails from activists as far as Canada and the United States. 

The animal rights group posted the message on their social media platform, encouraging people to send messages complaining about the church’s decision to host the hunting group.

The Diocese of Hereford has set the record straight on the issue, assuring people that the church is a place for all.

A spokesperson said: “The decision has been made in the interests of her personal safety and that of anyone expected to attend.”

“Our churches remain open to everyone and offer anyone a welcome, whatever their belief or worldview.”

West Mercia Police say they did not insist that the church cancel the service but did offer advice on public safety.
