Hundreds gather for funeral of murdered church organist

The widow of a church organist who was killed on his way to midnight mass on Christmas Eve has paid tribute to her husband.  Addressing the hundreds who turned out to pay their respects to Alan Greaves, his wife Maureen said Alan always encouraged her to act in a Godly way.

She spoke about turning the tide from hatred, vengeance and unforgiveness against those who killed him.

The funeral for Mr Greaves took place at St Saviour's Church in Sheffield.

The 68 year-old from High Green, Sheffield, was on his way to Midnight Mass when he was attacked on December 24th. He died three days later.

The service was also shown via video link in St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, which is just down the road. Crowds standing outside were also able to listen to the service via speakers. Sky's Tom Parmenter was at the funeral and tells Premier's News Hour it seemed like the whole community wanted to attend. Revd Canon Simon Bessant from St Saviour's spoke to Premier's Des Busteed before the service:

Jonathan Bowling, 22, and Ashley Foster, 21, have been charged with Mr Greaves murder.
