Franklin Graham calls for an end to ‘terrible war' in Ukraine, as US cuts off intelligence

by Anna Rees Green

The Rev Franklin Graham has taken to social media to call for an end to the war in Ukraine.

The son of the late evangelist Billy Graham is CEO of relief charity Samaritan’s Purse, and a spiritual advisor to Donald Trump. He delivered prayers at Trump’s inauguration in January, saying: “Look at what God has done”, and asking God to guide the new president.

The US will now cut off its CIA intelligence to Ukraine, in an unprecedented move.

In a social media post at the weekend, Graham wrote: “Yesterday’s meeting between [the President] and Ukraine’s President [Zelensky] was tense and unfortunately did not end well. The progress we had all hoped for is again delayed. Pray for the people of Ukraine, and that there would be an end to this terrible war.”

Zelensky has now said he is ready for a peace deal with the US – a day after Trump announced he would suspend all military aid to the nation.

He said he wants to work under “Trump’s strong leadership” and thanked America for their support. “It’s “time to make things right,” said the Ukrainian president.

Trump has yet to respond to the comments.

Next week, Keir Starmer and Emmanual Macron plan to accompany Zelensky to the White House for further talks.
