A former Sheffield church leader and his wife have been charged with multiple counts of rape.
Stephen Timmis, 68, and Janet Timmis, 61, both of Psalter Lane in the city, each face eight counts of rape against one woman.
Charges relate to offences alleged to have happened between May and September 2008 when Stephen Timmis was leader of the Crowded House Church in the city, according to South Yorkshire Police.
The couple have been bailed to appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on 1 December.
A police statement said: “Our enquiries have led us to believe there may be individuals in the community, who may have previously been members of the church, with information which could be relevant to our investigation.
“We are appealing for anyone with concerns or information to come forward. Anyone with information will be offered appropriate support as required. You can get in touch with us by either phoning 101, or through our online reporting system. Please quote investigation number 14/229723/24 when you get in touch.”
