Fired Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz's wife 'proud' of husband for 'humbling himself and taking responsibility' following extramarital affair scandal

by Kelly Valencia

Laura Lentz, the wife of former NYC Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz, has said she feels "proud" of her husband for "the responsibility he has taken" following a sex and leadership scandal in 2020.

Both Laura and Carl Lentz announced their return to public life via Instagram posts with family pictures.

On her post, Laura recognised the last 22 months had been "challenging" but said is looking forward to "sharing our story."

"Yep, it has been challenging and hell yeah it's taken a LOT of work the past 22 months (but who's counting ??) to make our marriage what it has become, and we will never stop working on ourselves, for this marriage and for our kids! I know there are many that don't or would never do what I chose to do, and that's ok, it's not for everyone!!

"I look forward to sharing our story, how I came to that conclusion and I think it's going to help a lot of people.. But I am so proud of my husband and for the responsibility, he's taken!

"Mostly I'm grateful for a man who humbled himself and didn't try to defend himself, he has kept quiet publically and he has remained focused on the one thing that matters most-our family!"

In November 2022, the former Hillsong pastor was fired from his role at the NYC church over "leadership issues" and moral failures.

He had been working there for over ten years and was known for befriending celebrities including singer Justin Bieber.

Lentz later recognised he did not maintain a standard expected of a Christian and church leader and recognised he had been unfaithful to his wife.

Since then, both Carl and Laura retired from the public sphere and moved to California where it was reported Carl entered a treatment program to treat mental health issues.

Two hours before Laura's post, Carl had also taken to Instagram to announce their return.

"It's been a challenging road but we are alive, we are at peace and thanks to the grace of God we are TOGETHER. Not sure what the future holds for us, but we do know that we face it as a family and for that I am so thankful.

"My deepest thanks to our friends and family that have shown us such unconditional love and grace when we have desperately needed it. Forever grateful.. we are hopeful about what is ahead! Thanks."

It's unclear what the family will do next.
