Charmain Adusah's husband, Pastor Eric Isaiah Adusah, has been arrested accused of her murder.
They both worked at the Tottenham branch of Global Light Revival Ministries in London.
Mrs Adusah, who was said to be pregnant, was discovered in the Royal Mac Dic Hotel last month.
She had been attending a religious event with her husband but it's claimed the couple had a disagreement over how long to stay in the country.
Mr Adusah left the hotel without his wife and told reception she did not want to be disturbed.
Hotel staff entered the room when they became concerned for the woman, who was known as Charmain Spiers before marriage, and found her "lying prostrate with a white towel wrapped around her, almost in a decomposed state," police said.
The 41-year-old already has a son and is said to have been three months pregnant at the time at the time of her death.
It's understood her son has not yet been told about his mother's death.
Her Scottish family have now launched an appeal to bring her body home.
Her mother, Linda, from Arbroath, said on Facebook: "Thinking of all our sweet angels who are spending Easter in Heaven. We love and remember you always.
"We light this candle in memory of our loved ones. We send our love and Easter wishes straight to Heaven."
According to the Daily Record Mrs Adusah's brother, Peter Speirs, said: "We are all devastated. The pastor is her next of kin and we have been told he is the only person who can release her body, even though he has been arrested for murder.
"We can't even arrange a funeral."
A fund has been started to raise money to bring her body back to Scotland.
Organiser Julie Gall is quoted by STV News as saying: "I am raising funds on behalf of the family of my dear friend Charmain Speirs whose life was cruelly taken while visiting Ghana. She was three months pregnant.
"We need to raise a fair bit of money to be able to support her family in bringing her body back to Scotland and lay her to rest at home.
"Any money left over will go to the family to help towards her funeral cost. If there is any money remaining after this it will be put into a trust for her son."
