Franklin Graham has said he will not be watching the Winter Olympic coverage, despite supporting Team US athletes.
He said: "While I support @TeamUSA’s athletes in the @Olympics, I won’t be watching @NBC’s coverage of the games and all the propaganda that comes along with it."
He shared the comment on Twitter after “retweeting” a Fox News article regarding comments made by Nancy Pelosi.
The House Speaker had said that US athletes should not “risk incurring the anger of the Chinese government because they are ruthless”.
There has been significant concern from Christian communities and human rights groups regarding religious freedoms in China.
Some called for a diplomatic boycott of the Games, but Henrietta Blyth from Open Doors has spoken out on the issue, telling Premier that the issue isn’t as easy as one might think: “It's very tricky, because the Chinese government already appear to think that the Church is an infiltration from the West, so it is difficult.
"If we make Christianity political, then that feeds into that narrative, which I don't think strengthens the Church in China and helps our persecuted brothers and sisters.
“So I think it's important to make people aware of what's going on in China, with the different religions, and obviously with our persecuted Church family.
“I think it's also really important to pray for the church there, that the Lord will strengthen the church, that the Church will continue to be salt and light within China, that the Lord's will continue to grow the church across China. “
