The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have christened their daughter, Lilbet Diana, in Los Angeles.

The small, Anglican ceremony took place amongst “20 or 30 friends”, and was led by the Bishop of Los Angeles, Rev John Taylor.

Rev Taylor is the most senior member of the California Episcopal Church, which is part of the Anglican Communion, but an error in the royal couple’s statement identified the wrong man.

The pair accidentally referred to Rev Taylor as the Archbishop of Los Angeles, instead of the bishop.

The Archbishop of Los Angeles is Most Rev Jose Gomez – a Catholic leader.

The statement read: “‘I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor.”

The statement is the first time the couple have chosen to refer to their daughter as “princess,” as became her birth right following the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the ascension of King Charles III, Lilibet’s grandfather.

Neither the King, Queen Consort, or the Prince and Princess of Wales, were in attendance, despite being apparently invited.

Doria Ragland, the mother of the Duchess of Sussex, did attend, as well as filmmaker and godfather Tyler Perry.
