Double honour for Vicar appointed as Queen's Chaplain and Archdeacon Pastor

Chaplain to the Queen is a personal appointment made by Her Majesty, making Sue a member of the Queen's Ecclesiastical Household, one of 34 priests in the College of Royal Chaplains in England.

Queen's Chaplains support the monarch spiritually and in prayer and join a rota of chaplains who are available to Her Majesty at any time.  They preach annually in the Royal Chapel at St James's Palace and are also in attendance to the Queen at various official events at Buckingham Palace. It is an honorary rather than salaried position and is undertaken alongside existing diocesan and parish roles.

On her appointment, Sue said: "I am greatly honoured to have been asked to accept the appointment as a Chaplain to the Queen and look forward to serving the Queen and the Church in this way."

Simultaneously but unrelatedly, the Bishop of Coventry has also announced Sue's appointment as Archdeacon Pastor for Coventry, from March 2018. The position became vacant in August following the retirement of the Venerable John Green.

Sue talked about leaving the parish where she had served for 26 years, stating: "I shall be very sad to leave the Diocese of Leicester as I have made lots of friends there and have enjoyed all the roles I have held."

She added: "I am looking forward very much to taking up my new role in the Diocese of Coventry. I have a particular passion to enable every Christian to discover their vocation for God and look forward very much to working with you in the Diocese as we seek to worship God together, make new disciples and join in God's work of transforming communities,"
