Donald Trump Jr accuses the Left of hating church

Responding to online criticism about President Donald Trump's first State of the Union address, which highlighted the plight of a persecuted North Korean Christian, Trump Jr tweeted: "Apparently Church, Family, Police, Military, and The National Anthem are things the left hates."

On Wednesday, President Trump reflected on the past year and highlighted policies for the coming months.

 

He criticised the North Korean regime, by referencing audience member Ji Seong-ho  who grew up in the secretive state before escaping and being "tortured by North Korean authorities after returning from a brief visit to China".

Trump Jr defended his father and insisted "those values... allowed us to become the greatest nation in the world".

However, many people have criticised the President's decision to highlight the Church.

 

Joy-Ann Reid, author of 'We are the change we seek: The speeches of Barack Obama', tweeted: "Church... family... police... military... the national anthem... Trump trying to call on all the tropes of 1950s-era nationalism..."
