The Bishop of Fulham has apologised after interrupting a church concert whilst wearing his dressing gown and telling performers to stop “this terrible racket”.

The City Voices Academy choir was performing their annual summer concert at St Andrew’s church, Holborn. A band member who posted the now-viral clip, said the group was “95% done” with their concert, which had overrun by seven minutes, when the house lights went off.

“We’re in the final number, which is a banging Motown Medley,” the cellist said, “everyone’s all ‘what the’ - especially the band who don’t have stand lights and got the music that afternoon, so haven’t memorised it… the lights come on and that’s when the bishop came on stage and I started filming.”

Standing barefoot on the stage, Rt Rev Jonathan Baker can be heard saying: “You are in my house, that’s it. It’s gone past ten. You are making a terrible racket. Goodnight.”

Murmurs of disbelief wash over the crowd, before he repeats: “You are in my house. Can you leave it now, please?”

A diocese of London spokesperson has since said: “Bishop Jonathan reached out to the organisers on Saturday to apologise for his late-night appearance at the concert, which he now understands had overrun due to earlier technical difficulties.”

Premier Christian News has approached the diocese for further comment.
