Actress Dawn French has announced that she will star in a special episode of "The Vicar of Dibley" in aid of Comic Releif.
"Hmmm. Somethin interestin this way comes...." French tweeted at the weekend, with a picture of herself wearing a dog collar.
Later, Comic Relief posted on its Instagram page: "Guess who’s back in the dog collar! ⛪️ @dawnfrenchofficial returns as the Vicar of Dibley for a one-off sketch for #TheBigNightIn with @bbccin…"
The special Comic Relief night is set to air Thursday 23rd April, and will be hosted by Dawn’s ex-husband, Lenny Henry.
French added: "I'm back in the dog collar, back in the vicarage, and back on your telly as part of The Big Night In. Be there, or go to hell. Literally. I have some sway."
Fans expressed their excitement at seeing Geraldine Kennedy return to the big screen.
"I’ve literally just finished binge watching The Vicar of Dibley on Netflix this morning. I cannot wait!!" one person wrote. Another added: "love a good joke. This is what we need at the moment a good old laugh. Thank you #vicarofdibley"
The latest Vicar of Dibley sketch to air was back in 2015. Tragically, two of the show's cast have died since then. Emma Chambers (Alice) and John Bluthal (Frank) both passed away in 2018.
