Churches across England to hold 'light parties' as an alternative to Halloween

by Alex Collett

Churches across England will be holding 'light and bright parties' as an alternative to Halloween parties this weekend.

Rather than ignoring the celebration, churches will open their doors to host games, arts and crafts and even provide an opportunity to light a candle in remembrance of someone special in the eve of All Saints.

The 31st October, known as Halloween by many, originates from the phrase "All Hallows Eve" meaning the night before the church's festival celebrating All Saints.

The Church of England has also created a search engine on their website to find local churches hosting 'light and bright parties'.

Within the Cambridgeshire area, at least 24 churches are taking part by holding a 'light and bright' party.

St John's church in Lemington Spa will hold a 'light and bright' party on Saturday at 6pm including a bonfire, fireworks and crafts for families.

St Paul's church in South Harrow are also inviting children on Monday evening for a 'Ligh tNight Detectives in the Dark evening' which promises a fun evening of adventure, games, food and craft.

A Monthly Gift Of $11 Makes A World Of Difference

In a world of fake news there’s never been a greater need for quality Christian journalism. Premier’s mission is to provide the Church with the most up to date and relevant news, told from a Christian perspective. But we can’t do it without you.

Unlike many websites we haven't put up a paywall — we want to keep our journalism free at the point of need and as open as we can. Premier’s news output takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. No one in the USA is sharing news like we are across radio, magazines and online so please help us to continue that today.

For a monthly gift of $11 or more we’d also be able to send you a free copy of the brand new Premier Bible, a wonderful Anglicised version of the NLT packed with exclusive bonus content, reading plan and resources to help you get the most out of scripture.

Your monthly support will make a world of difference. Thank you.
