Church of Scotland minister and Catholic priest release Elvis-inspired Christmas song

by Kelly Valencia

A Church of Scotland minister and a Catholic priest have teamed up to release an Elvis-inspired Christmas song.

This is the 11th Christmas single Rev Neil Urquhart, minister at Fullarton Parish Church, and Father Willie Boyd, parish priest at the town's St Mary's and St John Ogilvie, release together.

The duo, who go by The Shoes Brothers, have previously been inspired by High School Musical and Queen to bring the Christmas message.

This year, they have chosen Elvis as their inspiration.

“The King of Rock n Roll pays tribute to The King of Kings’, with a good dollop of cheese rolled in,” the duo said on a Facebook post.

Fr Willie Boyd told Scottish Daily: “This year I’ve had parishioners, who don’t come to services, saying that if I don these Elvis robes and dance like I’ve been dancing they’ll come back.

“What fun we’ve had again joking and jesting with the public.

“It’s still surprising for some to see a priest and minister sharing such a special friendship, but we just love breaking down barriers, building bridges and celebrating community!”

Rev Neil Urquhart said: “In Alan Campbell, Stuart Forsyth and Dorothy Urquhart, we’ve such a creative team to produce the music, film and appearance. They make us look and sound nae too bad.

"Fans keep asking when our latest effort is out. They’ve been in suspense with the drip-feeding on our Facebook page with photos and videos of our jelly-legged dancing.

“Some think they’re seeing double as we walk down the street all geared up like Elvis.”

The 'Jesus Rock (Donkey’s Hooves)' single is already available on Spotify and Apple Music.
