Christians urged to be grateful and change the world during Lent

The charity's made a special calendar to help Christians keep track of their process during the 40-day period, which starts on February 10, as well as highlight the organisation's work across the world.

Head of Christian Aid Scotland, Rev Sally Foster-Fulton, told Premier: "Lent is a time for reflection and introspection; part of that [is] really thinking deeply about who we are and what our place is in this big, wide, beautiful world.

"We're a family of God, and so that means we have a lot of brothers and sisters to love and consider."

Christian Aid is also highlighting the plight of families in South Sudan, where civil war has forced 2.4 million people to flee their homes and left 5.3 million at risk of severe food shortages.

It told the story of a visually impaired pensioner in Sudan Sudan called Michael who, with their help, received fishing hooks and nets so he could pass of fishing skills to younger generations.

Rev Sally Foster-Fulton went on to say: "Too often, we think 'goodness, there are so many things going on in the world; it's much too big for me to do anything about, so i'll retreat into my bubble'.

"This is a challenge not to do that, it's a challenge to say, 'actually, things can be different'."

"Definitely count your blessings over Lent and Easter."
