Christians encouraged to be more generous in local communities

by Eno Adeogun

Organised by charity Share Jesus International - the free campaign called Prompt instructs participants to prayerfully ask God a weekly question and then look out for opportunities and situations that arise where they can follow through with the challenge.

Andy Frost, Director of Share Jesus International and project lead on Prompt told Premier there are simple things we can do to be more generous.

Speaking during Premier's News Hour, he said there are questions Christians should ask themselves: "What God-given characteristics can I affirm in a stranger this week? Who needs to hear what I read in the Bible this week? Or who needs my help this week?

"The idea is that we ask God the question and look for God's prompting during the everyday of life."

Each Monday the campaign team will send out an email and text including a question to those who are taking part to encourage them to act on how they feel God is leading them.

Frost told Premier an example of how he has been prompted to speak to someone he usually wouldn't.

"Every week there are things we can do to share our faith. Recently, I became aware there's a lady I walk past each day that's homeless.

"Often I walk past her but I'm prompted and challenged by God [to think] 'how can I speak about God's hope in her difficult situation?'"

Both individuals and churches are being urged to sign up to this year's Prompt challenge and take advantage of the variety of resources on its website that includes teaching videos, promotional cards, sermon outlines and house group discussions.
