Christians demonstrate in anti-austerity march

by Hannah Tooley

More than 150-thousand protesters met at the Bank of England, led by the People's Assembly Against Austerity National Demonstration.

Many Christian groups are attending and Christians Against Poverty (CAP) said this is because Christians are becoming a lot more socially active.

Daniel Furlong, from CAP, told Premier Christians are taking more of an interest in politics: "I think the big shift now is the fact that politics has become far more interested in the poor.

"I think now that politics has caught up with what the church has been saying all along."

He added that: "Christians and the church thing that the Bible emphasises around poverty as well... loving your neighbour and care for your neighbour, and God is concerned about the poor."
