Christian woman escapes after forced conversion and abuse in Pakistan

by Lydia Davies

A Christian mother in Pakistan who was twice kidnapped, forcibly converted to Islam, and subjected to a fake marriage has managed to escape her captor and reunite with her family.

According to Christian Post, the woman, whose identity remains protected for her safety, was deceived by Muhammad Asif Sadiq, a security guard the university where she worked as a cleaner.

Under the pretence of helping her access financial aid, he led her to an undisclosed location, where he forced her to sign documents that falsely confirmed her conversion and marriage.

"I had no idea of his real intentions and trusted his offer for assistance," she shared.

Held captive for eight days, the oman was eventually released after a local council of elders intervened.

However, on 14th February Sadiq and two accomplices kidnapped her at gunpoint and took her to a remote location, where she was assaulted and raped for three days.

Seizing a chance to flee on 17th February, she returned to her family.

"I was deeply traumatized, but the thought of seeing my husband and children again gave me the strength to escape," she recounted.

Her husband, Asif Masih, filed a police report, but despite the severity of the crime, authorities failed to act promptly, allowing Sadiq to secure pre-arrest bail.

"We lack the means to bribe officials, which is why they have not taken serious action against him," Masih said.

Christian lawyer Sumera Shafique assisted the victim in recording her statement in court and facilitated a medical examination, which confirmed she had been assaulted.

She is pushing for additional charges, including rape, to be formally added to the case.

Pakistan ranks eighth on Open Doors’ 2025 World Watch List as one of the most dangerous places for Christians, with many facing persecution, forced conversions, and limited legal protection.
