Christian schools and families plan to appeal a High Court decision upholding the government’s imposition of 20 per cent VAT on independent school fees.
The Christian Legal Centre-backed case argued the tax disproportionately affects low-income families seeking faith-based education.
Stephen White, a parent from Bradford, said: “This policy denies us this right and choice and must be challenged.”
Jill Holt, head of The Branch Christian School, added: “Parents are being priced out of sending their children to schools that reflect their Christian values.”
The court acknowledged the financial burden but ruled that Parliament has the authority to set tax policy.
Critics warn the policy is forcing school closures and undermining educational freedom. An appeal is underway.
