Christian David Burrowes said the terror group was so advanced that just attacking it from the sky was unlikely to eradicate it.
The United States has been leading a campaign of air strikes against IS across Iraq and Syria.
Militants from the group have killed thousands of Christians and forced many more from their homes.
In some parts of Iraq every single Christian has fled.
Speaking on Premier's News Hour, the MP for Enfield Southgate said: "Honestly, and more realistically, we have to recognise we need to ensure that all military means are available to repel Islamic State.
"So I wouldn't completely exclude British troops on the ground."
So far, Prime Minister David Cameron has ruled out sending any UK soldiers to Iraq to fight IS and says he is only in favour of air strikes against the group.
Parliament would have to give its approval before any troops were sent into the country.
