Christian MP doesn't expect any more UKIP defectors

Last month the MP for Clacton resigned his seat triggering a by-election which he announced he'd stand in.

He claimed that the leaders of the Conservative party 'talk the talk' but fail to deliver on the key issues such as modernising politics, bank reform and Europe.

The latest polls suggest he could become UKIP's first elected MP with 56% of locals saying they will vote for him.

His departure has raised concern that other disillusioned Tories will also leave the party for UKIP.

But John Glenn, MP for Salisbury and Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government isn't convinced.

Speaking on Premier's Politics Today programme he said: "I'd be very surprised if anyone joined him before the general election.

"We know that no political party absolutely believes everything that we cherish but we join one of them.

"Sometimes we're deeply frustrated, sometimes we're content. I think people tend to develop a strong loyalty.

UKIP has previously claimed it was in contact with eight Tory MPs.
