Christian MP condemns complaint against his as 'absurd'

Neil Coyle has been reported to Labour's chief whip and general secretary by Karie Murphy, a member of Jeremy Corbyn's office for "not raising questions with the line manager".

Coyle, the representative for Bermondsey and Old Southwark, accused the party of trying to shut down critics, saying: "I won't be intimidated.

"They're shouting down anyone who dares to raise the tiniest of concerns about losing Copeland or being 20 points behind the Tories in the polls."

A long-standing critic of the Labour leader, Coyle wrote to Jeremy Corbyn to raise concern of a perceived lack of MP briefings regarding the UK's withdrawal from the European Union and Labour's slow response to big news stories.

A spokesman for Mr Corbyn said Mr Coyle was reported for "consistently abusing" party staff members. A former spokesman for the Labour leader Matt Zarb-Cousin said Coyle has previously attacked party staff "without having established the facts".

Mr Coyle added: "I think it is an absurd situation and I think it is very frustrating that questions my members ask will not be answered by the man responsible.

"Rather than address the issues I have raised, the knee-jerk reaction is to make accusations about me, make a complaint about me."
