Christian Medical Fellowship says pray 'for wisdom' for UK authorities  over China Covid restrictions

by Alex Collett

Christian Medical Fellowship (CMF) has said that we should "pray for wisdom" for UK authorities, as Spain becomes the second country to introduce COVID restrictions for travellers from China.

After a sharp rise in Coronavirus cases across China, Italy and Spain are now two countries that have introduced Covid-19 regulations for Chinese passengers.

In the UK however, there are no current Covid-19 restrictions in place for tourists coming from China.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) have said in a statement: "Ministers have said the government is keeping the situation 'under review'."

Head of communications for CMF Steve Fouch told Premier, we should be praying for "constant vigilance and wisdom" for UK authorities, he said: "I think, we should pray for constant vigilance and wisdom for the authorities.

"It's a fast changing global situation, it is a fast changing virus and we have to be wise and nimble to know how to respond to it.

"So I think prayer for wisdom, for the courage to take hard decisions quickly, and to be able to get the necessary measures in place, should the need arise as quickly as possible. I think that's all we can really pray for, for the authorities at the moment."

Chinese passengers arriving in Spain will now need proof of vaccination against Covid-19 or a negative Covid test.

As reported by Sky News, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation have said by the UK placing restrictions for passengers coming from China, it is not likely that this will stop new strains of Covid-19 entering the country.

Mr Fouch says it's too early to tell whether or not installation of Covid-19 restrictions in the UK for Chinese tourists would make a difference to other strains of Covid cases rising in the UK.

He said: "We probably won't know the answer to whether it's the right thing to do or not until after another year or so has passed and we've seen the consequences in different countries which have different policies, we are learning as we go along.

"As we look back, in hindsight, some measures worked and some measures didn't, but we didn't know at the time and so at the moment, really, it's very hard to say whether this would make much of a difference or not."
