Christian magazine editor speaks out on the return of popular 'lads mag'

by Lydia Davies

Loaded magazine is returning to UK shelves, promising men the freedom to "ogle beautiful women".

The formerly popular 'lads mag' has been relaunched after a nine-year hiatus, with Danni Levy, the new editor, promising to "restore its edgy status in pop culture" in a world that has “gone overboard with political correctness and excessive caution".

Levy aims to bring back the nostalgic essence of the monthly publication that first appeared 30 years ago but ceased in 2015 due to online competition and evolving preferences that also affected similar magazines like FHM, Nuts, and Zoo.

Elizabeth Hurley has been selected to grace the front cover of the first issue, which will be distributed to subscribers.

Negotiations are also underway with glamour model Katie Price to revisit one of her iconic Nineties photoshoots.

Tola Doll Fisher is the editor of Premier's Woman Alive magazine. She told Premier Christian News that she questions whether the magazine's return is "a misunderstanding of the society we now live in".

When asked about the pornographic nature of Loaded she said: "Porn is inherently damaging whether it's obtained... online or digitally or in a physical magazine."

The return of this particular magazine has caused controversy online, with one X user writing: “Bringing back Loaded: great idea. Bringing back Loaded like this: absolutely trash.”

Another said the magazine was objectifying women by telling them it’s okay to ogle women and asked: “How about instead a magazine that teaches parents to raise their boys to respect women?”

However, in an interview with GB News, an ex-Loaded model said she is "excited" for the magazine to return because "the last few years women have really been taken advantage of".

She added: "Girls have been paying magazines to appear on the front cover and I've never heard anything like that in my life before... so it's nice to have the culture back of Loaded magazine... it's not a seedy magazine."

The magazine was relaunched in May and will be online only.
