Christian charities join together for International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church

by Sophie Drew

Christians are being urged to pray for brothers and sisters in Christ experiencing extreme difficulty because of their religious beliefs.

Sunday is the ‘International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church’, and Christian charities are hoping believers will come together in solidarity.

The Evangelical Alliance will be hosting a joint webinar with Open Doors, CSW and Release International, with guest speakers from Cuba, China and Iraq sharing their testimonies.

Dr David Landrum, from Open Doors, said: “The phenomenon of Christian persecution shows no signs of decreasing. We have 360m Christians, according to our World Watch List report, that suffer high levels of persecution

“312m of them experience very high, extreme levels of persecution.

“So this is a time to pray, and the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church is a wonderful opportunity to do that.

“… I would encourage everybody to get involved because, as the Bible says, when one part of the body is hurting, we are all hurting, and our brothers and sisters more than anything else, rely on the power and the encouragement of our prayers.”

The event starts at 7.30pm on Sunday, November 6.
