Former I'm A Celebrity star Rev Richard Coles recently found himself in an amusing predicament during a trip to Scotland’s Outer Hebrides.
The 62-year-old was traveling through Stornoway Airport on the Isle of Lewis last Friday when a routine security check flagged an unusual item in his luggage.
The culprit? A Stornoway black pudding—a cherished local delicacy he had purchased as a souvenir. To airport security, however, the pudding appeared suspicious, resembling an explosive substance like Semtex.
Coles, known for his wit, took to social media to recount the incident. “Want to trigger an emergency response going through Lewis security?” he joked. “Simply purchase some black pudding from the Isle of Stornoway, which looks to the scanner like Semtex. Tastes MUCH nicer.”
Despite the confusion, the issue was resolved and Coles continued on his journey, which included attending a local church.
During his New Year’s trip to Scotland, Coles admits he enjoyed cuisine the Isle of Lewis has to offer, declaring himself a fan of the world-renowned Stornoway black pudding.
The traditional delicacy, made from blood, oatmeal, onions, and spices, is celebrated for its distinctive flavor and high quality.
The now former vicar has become a household name as a presenter and celebrity personality. He first came to prominence partnering with Jimmy Somerville in the 1980s band The Communards which achieved three UK top ten hits, including the No. 1 record and best-selling single of 1986, a dance version of Don't Leave Me This Way.
He became a Church of England vicar, curate at St Botolph's Church in Boston, Lincolnshire and then at St Paul's Church, Knightsbridge, before becoming the 59th vicar of Finedon and retiring in 2022.
Last year he appeared in the ITV reality show I'm A Celebrity... coming third.
