Catholic bishops to hold weekly mass for coronavirus patients and frontline workers

Catholic Bishops in England and Wales will respond to the coronavirus pandemic with prayer by holding weekly mass in their cathedrals. 

Rev Canon Christopher Thomas, General Secretary of the Church said mass will be held every Thursday for people infected with coronavirus as well and medical and social care workers. 

"Those who are sick, and their families, are suffering many hardships of isolation from contact with those they love," he said. 

"Our front-line workers in hospitals and in care homes all over our lands are giving exceptional service to those who are vulnerable at this time."

Each mass will be live streamed at 7pm for people to join. 

Here is the list of bishops taking part so far:

23rd April Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Westminster Cathedral

30th April Bishop Richard Moth, Arundel Cathedral

7th May Bishop Marcus Stock, Leeds Cathedral

14th May Bishop Robert Byrne CO, Newcastle Cathedral

21st May Bishop Mark Davies, Shrewsbury Cathedral

28th May Bishop Terence Drainey, Middlesbrough Cathedral
