The Bishop of Blackburn is set to take up his new seat as one of the 'Lords Spiritual' at the House of Lords next month.
Rt Rev Julian Henderson has received his 'writ of summons' which calls new peers to Parliament.
He will take up his new appointment on the 6th February, at which point Bishop Julian will become one of the 26 Church of England archbishops and bishops of the House of Lords.
The Archbishops of Canterbury and York and the Bishops of London, Durham and Winchester are automatically appointed along with the 21 longest serving bishops.
Speaking about his appointment, Bishop Julian said: "It is a huge privilege for me to be admitted into, and share in the work of, the House of Lords. I ask for the prayers of people across Lancashire as I prepare for this new role.
"I will still spend most of my time in the Diocese fulfilling my responsibilities here, but I am looking forward to being a new voice for the County; to engaging in debates on matters of public interest from a Christian perspective and to joining other Lords Spiritual and Lords Temporal 3 in holding the Government of the day to account."
Bishop Julian plans to speak out on a number of social matters whilst in the role, including homelessness, education, community cohesion, mental health and poverty whilst also focusing on the importance of faith in today's society.
