Bishop fears we're forgetting about Iraq

Rt Rev Christopher Cocksworth thinks not enough attention is being given to the situation in Iraq as the media dominates on the virus that is spreading across West Africa.

He told Premier: "We live in this world and there's so much to be kept informed about.

"It's crisis after crisis. But there is a crisis ongoing in Syria and Iraq, and I do think our attention needs to be on it."

Islamic State (IS) militants are advancing across Iraq and Syria as it tries to establish an Islamic caliphate ruled by Sharia law.

Hundreds of thousands of Christians have been forced to flee their homes in the countries after IS issued convert or die warnings.

The bishop added: "I do have a concern, it is so difficult isn't it, because the media does move from one thing to another and one can appreciate that has to happen.

"Our attention certainly needs to be on it in the Houses of Parliament, because so many people are suffering.

"The stakes are so high and the deep causes of this situation in Iraq are so deep that they need every effort of our attention, our energy, our analysis and our action."
