The trust is an independent charity dedicated to supporting and promoting places of worship of historic, architectural and community value.
Bryson, renowned for his love of the British countryside, said: "It is impossible to overstate the importance of churches to this country.
"Nothing else in the built environment has the emotional and spiritual resonance, the architectural distinction, the ancient, reassuring solidity of a parish church.
"To me, they are the physical embodiment of all that is best and most enduring in Britain."
Bill Bryson is an American author who has lived in the UK for most of his adult life. His books include "Notes From a Small Island" and "A Short History of Nearly Everything".
