Bibles have been removed from university halls in Aberystwyth, Wales, following a student vote at the university.
Student, John David Morgan raised the issue saying it could be seen as offensive to some students.
Of a 10,000 strong student body just 475 students voted, with 300 for and 175 against the idea of removing the books.
The university's Christian Union said it aimed to "give every student on campus the opportunity to hear and respond to the good news of Jesus Christ."
In a statement it added: "We believe the Bible is God's word and with this a source of hope and truth and so are saddened at the decision that has been made."
Owen Brown is the UCCF Team Leader in Wales. He told Premier's news Hour: "I think we need to watch and make sure it's not going to be part of a more significant drift towards basic loss of freedom of conscience, freedom of speech."
He said it was a shame and "probably a lot of people just don't realise the value and the treasure that the bible is... I think it's sad, it shows us how much work we need to keep on doing, keep on plugging away."
