BBC drama accused of being 'anti-Catholic' up for 4 BAFTAs

Last April, as the drama series hit the US, Catholic bishops lashed out at the programme, calling it a "prejudice-laden presentation of the past."

The Catholic News Service, said that the show was a "work of fiction that adopts a narrow, revisionist and anti-Catholic point of view toward the religious turmoil of the Tudor period in which it's set."

Despite the criticism, it's been nominated in the best drama series.

Three actors who starred in the show have been nominated for their performances including Mark Rylance, who played Cromwell and was nominated for Leading Actor.

Claire Foy who plays Anne Boleyn was nominated for Leading Actress and Anton Lesser, was nominated for Supporting Actor, for playing Thomas More.

The BBC announced last year that the series was received the highest ratings for a drama since 2002.
