Archbishop Welby praises Thy Kingdom Come 2017

by Eno Adeogun

Hundreds of thousands of people across 85 countries responded to Most Rev Justin Welby's call to prayer for the Good News to be spread.

Speaking to Premier, he said the prayer campaign that is running between Ascension Day and Pentecost this Sunday, had exceeded his expectations.

He said: "Somehow the act of Christians turning to God within their own traditions - without someone telling them this is how you've got to do it in prayer- seems to have liberated a renewal of prayer on a global basis in all sorts of incredible ways."

The global prayer movement began as an invitation from the Archbishops' of Canterbury and York in 2016 to the Church of England but has grown to include Christians from different denominations living in various countries around the world.

Participants have been encouraged to get involved in various ways from worship nights to prayer walks and overnight prayer vigils.

In a video posted on the Thy Kingdom Come website, the Archbishop talks about his faith, why he's a Christian and why he is asking Christians around the world to join him in praying for more people to know Jesus Christ.

He also explained to Premier that the simplicity of the scheme helps make it a global success, adding: "That process of encountering the love of God through others praying for you - with you - or just being at a place where people are praying.

"It may be a big Cathedral and nobody knows what you're going through - but you're able to sit there and think 'they're doing the work, I'm not - I'm just going to sit here".
