Archbishop of York leads a Rock Mass to offer a 'fresh perspective on worship'

by Lydia Davies

The Archbishop of York, the Most Reverend Stephen Cottrell, recently led a Rock Mass as part of the Diocese of Leeds' decade-long celebrations.

The service, a fusion of modern rock music and traditional liturgy, aimed to offer attendees "a fresh perspective on worship."

During his visit, the Archbishop emphasised the Church's dedication to finding new methods to connect with the community while preserving its historical essence.

"As a former vicar of Huddersfield, familiar with Mixenden, it's heartening to witness the ongoing vibrancy of creativity and connection in this wonderful community," the Most Rev Cottrell told the Halifax Courier.

Holy Nativity Church's Rock Mass, a monthly event for over ten years, was honoured to host the Archbishop for a special edition. "Hosting such a high-profile guest is a wonderful acknowledgment of our community's creative spirit," said Rev Robb Sutherland of the church.

This visit kicks off an important year for Holy Nativity Church as it prepares to introduce a series of creative arts events throughout the summer to celebrate its 70th anniversary. Additionally, plans are underway for significant redevelopment of the church building in the coming three years.
