Archbishop of York backs Christmas cards after poll shows their worth

by Aaron James

Traidcraft's survey found people overwhelmingly think Christmas cards are the best way to show someone you love them during the festive season.

The Traidcraft poll found 84 per cent of people preferred to receive Christmas cards, compared to just three per cent who'd rather texts and two per cent who'd prefer social media messages.

Archbishop of York, Most Rev John Sentamu, said after the poll: "Christmas is a time when everyone should feel connected, loved and enjoy a sense of belonging.

"Christmas cards really are the best way to show someone that you've taken the time to think of them at this special time of year.

"Sending a Christmas card is a simple act, but it really shows you care."

Speaking on Premier's News Hour Paul Oliver, from Traidcraft, said: "In this world now it's so easy just to send a text or just to put a social media post up, which is great for connecting with people, but actually we feel that something's been lost in amongst that and just actually spending some time to invest something personal in connecting with people, we think is really valuable.

"Charity Christmas cards generate a whole lot of income for charities at this time year. It's also a great way just to send a simple personal message but also just to share and remind people about the Christmas story."
