Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby: Britain should welcome more refugees

by Hannah Tooley

Justin Welby has asked Britain to show its "shared humanity", saying that the British people have "a long and wonderful history of offering shelter."

He spoke out asking the Government "to just be generous again," and help refugee and migrant families.

Speaking in The Big Issue, he wrote that: "The families coming to us from Syria will be among the most vulnerable and traumatised people affected by the crisis."

He continued: "As a country, do we have the emotional and spiritual capacity to welcome those who need our help?

"I pray that we do have the capacity."

The Government has agreed to accept 20,000 Syrian refugees over an extended period.
