Ann Widdecombe: 'As important as I regard Brexit, it does not affect my mortal soul'

Speaking at a public meeting, the 71-year-old was asked which change was more difficult.

She replied: "As important as I regard Brexit, it does not affect my mortal soul."

Widdecombe will stand for the party headed up by Nigel Farage in the European elections on 23 May.

If elected, she'd represent South West England in the European Parliament should the UK not leave the EU later this year.

She's said her decision to stand came about as a result of the government's failure to deliver Brexit.

"Both major parties need a seismic shock," she said.

The Brexit Party currently leads the polls for the European elections with 34 per cent of the YouGov vote.

The Conservatives were fifth with just ten per cent.
