An American interfaith group has invited believers to join an online prayer event ahead of the midterm elections.
Voters go to the polls in the US on Tuesday, with the group Braver Angels calling on Christians to join in prayer for the nation on Sunday. The event has been organised alongside other interfaith groups, including Faith in America and Faith250.
It's hoped the service can remind Christians to engage with politics, inspired by the Bible. Bishop Mark Beckwith said: “Voting is a sacred trust. It is also a centuries-old practice of honouring one another and the choices we make.
“And in so doing, we are affirming that we are neighbours of one another in the vast, diverse country of America.”
The online listing highlights the unifying power of prayer across political and spiritual divisions. saying “praying for America is nonpartisan. It is not about candidates, parties, or policy positions. People across the political spectrum and from all faith traditions are warmly invited. Join us in bringing the healing grace and shared civic values to the forefront by expressing support for free, fair and safe elections”.
US voters will decide their representatives in Congress, governors and members of local government.
