Franklin Graham, son of renowned evangelist Billy Graham, offered hope and spiritual guidance to residents along the US-Mexico border on 28th February during his visit to Eagle Pass, Texas.
Speaking to Fox News Digital about why he was there, he said: "I’m on the border of Mexico, and of course this is the centre of a lot of attention for our country. Millions of people have crossed this border into our country”.
Graham, known for his global evangelistic efforts, stressed the importance of setting politics aside and focusing on offering comfort and spiritual guidance to those struggling. He addressed the local population, including border patrols and law enforcement, recognising the strain the situation has placed on them
"People down here are discouraged," he said during his trip. "I’m talking about the local people, the Texans that live here. It’s tough…the border patrols are having a tough time, the state of Texas law enforcement is having a tough time. The people that live here are overwhelmed."
The 71-year-old pastor encouraged prayer for the border country, Mexico, and all those impacted by the situation. He emphasised his belief that "God hasn't forgotten them" and that faith in Jesus Christ can offer a path forward.
Tens of thousands attended his 'God Loves You Frontera Tour' events, seeking hope amidst the ongoing border crisis. Local pastors acknowledged the widespread hopelessness stemming from the situation and expressed their belief that Graham's message could bring positive change to individuals, families, and their communities.
This ten-city tour, spanning across Texas, Arizona, and California, aims to offer a message of "life-changing hope". It serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to address human needs and offer spiritual support, separate from the political complexities surrounding the border situation
"Pray for Texas, pray for this border, pray for Mexico. So many people are coming with hungry hearts, hurting hearts," Graham added. "They don’t know where to go, what to do, and they’re looking for just an opportunity at life."
