US actor Kel Mitchell has opened up about an experience in which he said demons left his body after being prayed over.
Mitchell, known for his role in the hit 90s Nickelodeon TV series Kenan and Kel, shared details about going through an exorcism in a more than two-hour interview on the popular US podcast Club Shay Shay.
He explained to host Shannon Sharpe, that he and a group of actors he was working on a film with at the time met an evangelist who was praying over them. He said he saw others visibly going through an exorcism as there was "spitting up".
Mitchell then said the evangelist told him he needed to forgive some people and say their names aloud.
Mitchell was recently divorced, after he said he was a victim of multiple bouts of infidelity. He had also rededicated his life to God after one of the lowest points in his life.
"So I've said my ex's name out loud, and forgave her," he told Sharpe. "And you know, let go of that anger forever".
Mitchell then said the woman told him that his ex had put a "hex" on him. He said he was shocked and was told to start saying "the blood of Jesus".
In what he described as his introduction to the spiritual realm, the evangelist started praying over him.
"I'm spitting up. And within that process, getting reconnected to the Lord in a very spiritual way in this moment," he explained.
"What is happening within this process, demons started like literally speaking out their name, I'm saying their names out loud.
"They're coming out of my body… each one is saying who they are. So, imagine I'm watching this as this is happening to me."
He said after an hour of "warring in the spirit", no one could tell him God didn't exist.
Following that pinnacle moment in his life that he described as a "rebirth", the actor said he became celibate, stopped drinking, clubbing and learned how to pray.
Years later, he began working at a church and then became a youth pastor.
The Good Burger star and musician also reflected on how his Christian faith helped him through challenges he's been through, including the death of a childhood friend, mental illness, marriage and issues with the entertainment industry.
The episode of Club Shay Shay, known for long sit-down interviews with celebrities, athletes, and influencers, featured a live musical performance for the first time. In a social media clip, Sharpe said the performance by Gospel artist Tye Tribbett made him want to "go back to church".
