Mike Andrea, the CEO of the global prayer movement 24-7 Prayer International has been suspended pending an investigation into allegations of misconduct.
A list of accusations were made online earlier this week by a former employee of Global Generation Church in Thanet which Mr Andrea also leads.
They include psychological, sexual, spiritual and financial abuses.
The former employee says the abuse took place between 2004 and 2010 but is only now in position where she is able to tell her story which she says left her feeling suicidal.
"For a long time, almost eleven years, I wanted to ‘cut and run’ from the experiences I had, and thought that it was possible to simply move on," she said. "Much therapy, and introspection, has made me realise that this position is no longer tenable for me and for my health."
She's calling on both the church and 24-7 Prayer to investigate and the wider church to tackle a culture which enables abusive behaviour to thrive.
Both the Global Generation Church and 24-7 Prayer have now suspended Mr Andrea pending an investigation into the complaint and have encouraged any others with complaints to come forward.
In a statement, 24-7 Prayer said: "We take all such allegations as matters of the gravest concern. Today, the board of 24-7 Prayer International met and unanimously agreed to suspend Mike Andrea immediately in order to conduct an investigation with the benefit of professional, independent counsel.
"We would ask you to remember those who have been most deeply hurt in your prayers, and would also appreciate your patience as we embark upon this important investigation."
