A huge fire has destroyed a century old church hall in Gateshead.
Around 40 fire-fighters and six fire engines battled the blaze at St Paul's in Winlaton on Tuesday morning.
The reason for the fire is unknown and no one is thought to be hurt.
Vicar Revd Tom Glover said: "We are all feeling gutted at the moment. However this is a strong community with many good people and we know we'll get through."
The church hall is used by a number of community groups as well as hosting a pre-school nursery.
Susan Thompson, who runs the nursery there, told the Chronicle she was devastated by the fire.
It is understood church members will meet for a prayer service on Tuesday evening.
