100 days till election: Christian MPs have their say

by Aaron James

All of the main political parties are on the road today trying to gain extra support before voters go to the polls.

Today, Prime Minister David Cameron said if he wins the next general election, his government would reduce the maximum amount a household could claim in benefits from £26,000 to £23,000 a year.

Meanwhile, Labour forwarded a ten-year plan for the NHS.

Conservative MP David Burrowes says his party would "secure the long term future of this country", and that it will cut back on spending in a "balanced" and "fair way".

Mr Burrowes who represents Enfield Southgate says the Conservatives wants to scrap the Human Right Act to restore "control" back to Britain and ensure criminals cannot use them to avoid punishment, and that the party is "not doing away with human rights".

Mr Burrowes also said the Conservatives have a "great record" with social justice issues like adoption and addiction.

He told Premier's News Hour: "We've got a great record supporting so many more people into adoption, supporting troubled families and people to break free from addictions.

"All this only can come if we support the strong, stable leadership that the Prime Minister offers.

"We're not doing away with human rights. Britain was there at the forefront of dealing with international human rights in relation to torture, and to try and prevent genocide.

"But... the way the Human Rights Act has gone is been it's taken down a different path by European judges.

"The reality is there's no easy way through this, there has to be cuts. We've had to make severe cuts... and we've been able to deal in a balanced and larged fair way."

However Labour MP Gavin Shuker says that under the Conservatives, the standard of living in Britain has decreased for the first time since the Second World War.

Gavin Shuker also claims Labour have a long-term plan for the NHS with the funds found already, and that all of Labour's commitments do not require additional borrowing.

Mr Shuker also said the Conservatives had failed to clear the deficit by the next general election like they promised to.

He told Premier's News Hour: "Over the last five years, this is a government - for the first time since the War - where living standards have decreased and not increased on their watch.

"This government came to power saying they would get rid of the entire deficit over four years. They've only been able to reduce it by half... so there's an enormous amount of pain to come.

"That's why we've been really clear that all of our commitments won't require additional borrowing."

"We created the NHS... the Tories voted against it at that time. We had to rescue it in 1997 when it had been starved of resources for eighteen years. And now in 2015 we're putting forward a costed plan that's going to enable it to survive beyond that."

A poll of polls says Labour will win the most seats at the election, but the analysis by Sky claims it won't be enough to gain a majority.
